Pest control pricing calculator: cost and price per stop

Price recurring pest control from your cost per stop: technician time for the service and the drive, product, vehicle and a share of overhead, with your margin on top. The calculator also shows how many stops fit in a day, which is why route density matters as much as price.

How cost per stop is worked out

  • Technician cost = (service minutes + drive minutes) / 60 x cost per hour.
  • Cost per stop = technician cost + product + vehicle + overhead per stop.
  • Price per stop = cost / (1 minus margin).
  • Stops per day = route hours x 60 / (service + drive minutes), rounded down.

What route density does to the price

Change the drive minutes from 12 to 6 and watch the stops per day and the cost per stop move. A tight route lets you charge less than a competitor and still earn more per day. It is the reason to offer a neighbor discount and to say no to stops far off the route unless they are priced for it.

Initial visits and yearly increases

The first visit takes longer and uses more product, so it carries its own fee. Review recurring prices every year against wage and product costs. Alvin can list accounts priced below your current rate from FieldRoutes or PestPac and QuickBooks, and draft the price-change notices for approval. More in the pest control pricing guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I price a recurring pest control service?

Work out your cost per stop from technician time including the drive, product, vehicle and overhead, then divide by one minus your profit margin. With the example numbers above the cost is about $66 and the price about $83.

How many stops can a pest control tech do in a day?

It depends on service time and drive time. At 25 minutes of service and 12 minutes of driving, about 12 stops fit in an 8 hour route day.

What should the initial pest control service cost?

More than a recurring visit, because it takes longer and uses more product. Run the calculator again with the longer service time and higher product cost to get its price.
